Phytophilic:
Why Look
at Plants?

12 May 2016. Free entry.

The Physics Room welcomes you to an evening film screening of Phytophilic: Why look at Plants?, a programme of contemporary art videos and archival footage curated by Brooklyn-based artist Ellie Irons. Introduced by Christchurch-based artist Zina Swanson, Phytophilic includes work by Tega Brain, Rob Carter, Ellie Irons, Angela Dittmar Posey, Patricia Dominguez, Kristyna and Marek Milde, Mary Ivy Martin and Kara Schmidt. This collection of video works seeks to present an all-angle perspective of our every-surmising plant life, despite humans' consistent attempts to demystify, control and commodify it.

Originally screened at 1067 PacificPeople (Brooklyn, NYC) as an expansion of Ellie Irons' Monument of Weediness project, Phytophilic is now on tour, having screened earlier this year at Blue Oyster Art Project Space, Dunedin.
